Skincare Routine – Skin Detox

Until about a month ago, I was following a good skincare routine, but I recently slipped into bad habits and stopped taking as good care of my skin. Because I’m pretty lucky in terms of skin (I don’t have acne and rarely get pimples) there weren’t any major effects, but I did notice a bunch of small spots, or a start of acne, on my forehead, not very visible, but still there. That’s when I realised that I’d better get back on track with my skincare routine if I wanted to keep healthy, decent skin and avoid acne, so I’m doing just that! I also decided to share my skin detox skincare routine, that, up till now (it’s been about a week) has been working pretty well at keeping my skin in check!

Just a quick description of my skin for reference: my T-zone, mainly the nose, gets oily and my nose has larger pores, but the rest of my face is pretty perfect, it isn’t dry and very rarely gets any pimples, I’d say it’s combination to normal with no dryness. Because my skin is pretty good to start with, don’t expect this to work on everyone, I’m just sharing my tips!

Skin detox

First things first, remove makeup! I use L’oreal’s gentle cleansing milk. This obviously only applies at night but it is really important, especially if you’re wearing foundation, blush, bronzer or eyeshadow because those clog up your pores the most. It’s important to keep your face clean so make sure you really get in there with your makeup remover. I try to use the makeup remover every day, even days I don’t wear makeup, because it helps get rid of makeup and the dirt accumulated during the day.

Next step is to cleanse! I use Neutrogena’s deep clean pink grapefruit foaming scrub and Simple’s deep cleansing facial wash. Cleansing too is essential in getting rid of makeup, oil and impurities, in the morning and the evening. I recommend having an exfoliating cleanser and a normal one, using the exfoliating one every other day, or at night will help keep your skin smooth and really clean, but don’t use it too much or it might irritate you skin.

Next is toning! I use Lush’s Tea Tree Toner Water which is in a convenient spray bottle, but I’ve had other types and they work just fine. Toning is sometimes overlooked and is just as important as cleansing because it helps get rid of any last oil, makeup and impurities, as well as balance out pH levels, hydrate and nourish your skin as well as prep it for anything else going on your skin.

After toning is moisturising! I have the Olay moisturising lotion. Moisturising, like everything else, is important. Basically, in the short-term, moisturiser helps balance out oil levels in your skin. It will help moisturise your skin and reduce oiliness because you get oily skin when your body thinks your skin is too dry so it produces more oil, moisturiser will make sure your skin gets the right moisture, so don’t be afraid to moisturise. In the long term, moisturising helps reduce wrinkles, if you compare your skin to a fruit, when a fruit is dried, it is wrinkled (like raisins) but when it’s full of water, it’s wrinkle free, you skin is kind of the same, so don’t forget to moisturise your face and neck!

Finally, spot treatment! The Clean and Clear one. This is not part of the every day routine but is still essential, a good spot treatment will help get rid of pimples and spots faster as well as reduce hyper pigmentation and other marks left by spots, unlike popping pimples or just leaving them!

That is my current skincare routine, it isn’t extensive, only 5 steps. I don’t go in depth with the specific products I use because I feel like the product itself is secondary to the step itself. In my opinion, even if you can’t afford the fanciest, most expensive moisturiser, you should still moisturise! So make sure you follow all of these steps for healthy skin!

My skincare routine

Hey everyone!

So I really love wearing makeup, trying new products and looks and so on, but there are some days when I don’t have time to do my makeup or I just don’t feel like it and I’m pretty sure I’m not the only one, but I think that some people feel obliged to wear makeup everyday because they feel insecure about their skin which I think is really too bad. First, let me tell you that pretty much no one’s skin is flawless, however, the best way to keep your skin as perfect as it can be is, is to use good skincare products and using them regularly. It’s really important to take care of your skin, to me it’s “heal and care for, then cover up”, partly because makeup is not the best thing for your skin, it clogs pores and all that so it’s better to not wear makeup everyday, but nonetheless, keep having fun with makeup! As I said, I find skincare really important so I don’t mind splurging on high end products but for now, my products are all pretty inexpensive but I am still really happy with all of them and my skincare routine has been the same for a while and I have been loving my skin so far!

First, and possibly most important, is removing makeup, I use two products for this, both from the L’Oreal Gentle line, the first is the L’Oreal Gentle lip and eye makeup remover for my eye makeup, it is oil based so great for waterproof makeup but doesn’t leave my skin feeling oily so I like it for now, then the L’Oreal Gentle cleansing milk, I discovered this about 6 months ago and I love it so much, I use it to remove my face makeup, I spread it all over my face then wipe it of with a cotton pad and it smells amazing. The only thing I don’t like so much is that it’s a bit liquid but I’m willing to deal with that because it’s a great makeup remover (and it’s moisturising). Then, I wash my face, either with the Clean and Clear Essentials foaming cleanser or with the Neutrogena Blackhead Eliminating Scrub, I’m not sure how well this works for eliminating blackheads because I have never had any but I like to think it prevents them, but I mostly use this for the scrub aspect of it. Next, on a dry, clean face, I use my Tea Tree Toner Water from Lush, it’s one of their three toners and this one is best for oily, spot prone skin (I think) my skin is more combination skin and have very few spots but it’s nice and refreshing and it reduces oil in my T-zone (especially my nose!). And finally, I use the Olay moisturising lotion all over my face and neck, because moisturising is really important to prevent wrinkles, keep your skin soft and so on! That is what I use every evening, but once a week a use a face mask and I have recently been using the St Ives Mineral Clay Firming Mask with kaolin clay and I like it for now. Although it’s a good mask, I don’t think I’ll be repurchasing it, I just want to try something new! Speaking of, I think I will be trying Lush’s Love Lettuce Fresh Face Mask, but although the Face Masks are around $7 in the US, they cost $25 in Singapore which is quite expensive for 3 uses!

What’s in my shower?

So I am constantly looking for new products, haircare products, makeup and more so I thought I would tell you what products I have in my shower in the hope that you’ll tell me what products you have in your shower because I’m nosy like that!

First I have two body washes which I like to alternate between: the Philosophy Raspberry Sorbet body wash and the Lush Snow Fairy body wash and I really like both of them, they lather up really well, smell really strong and the smell lingers. I probably won’t repurchase them as soon as I run out because I like to change up my body wash but I may eventually repurchase them because I just love them. I also have the sephora Caramel body scrub, I like it a lot, it’s inexpensive, smells delicious and is a good scrub.

Then I have two shampoos, my regular shampoo is the L’Oreal total repair shampoo, I use this pretty much every time I wash my hair (every other day), the other shampoo is from the Body Shop, the Rainforest total moisture shampoo, I use this as a deep cleansing shampoo, when I really want to wash out everything in my hair, usually after I go to the gym or at the end of the week, but honestly, the L’Oreal shampoo does a good job of washing all the gunk out, I just use the body shop shampoo when I want a bit more moisture!

Then I have a hair mask, I actually am using this as my conditioner for now, it says it’s to be used about 3 times a week which is the amount of times I wash my hair, it works really well, moisturises my hair, untangles it, all I need pretty much!

And finally I have a Loofah and a razor, and a few other bits and bobs!

That is all I have in my shower, it’s not that much but it’s all I need and use but I am running low on some products so I would love for you to let me know in the comments what products you have in your shower (or bath).
