Beach & Pool Essentials

Hey everyone!

So I’m at the beach in the Canaries right now, and since it’s summer, I’m assuming many of you are going to the pool or the beach these days, so I decided to share my beach and pool essentials!

First, sunscreen, if you only bring one thing (apart from you bathing suit) it should be sunscreen. As you probably already know, sunscreen helps prevent sunburns in the short term and cancer or other skin diseases in the long term. I’m not very picky when it comes to sunscreen, the one I have right now is from Banana Boat, and is SPF 50 and Pa +++, which is pretty good! As for the smell, I know that some people really don’t like sunscreen scent, but I personally love it, just smelling it makes me feel like I’m at the beach! One same note, a lip balm with SPF is a good thing to have too, because trust me, if your lips get sun burnt, you’re going to regret it!

Second, makeup, personally I don’t wear much makeup at the beach, usually just mascara, and sometimes eyeliner in the evenings if I want to look more done-up! I’m using the Maybelline The Rocket Mascara in the waterproof version, and this is really important, make sure that all of the makeup you wear is waterproof or at the very least water resistant, you don’t want all of your makeup ending up in the ocean or the pool!

Related to that, I think it’s good to have face wipes handy! They’re always good to clean your face quickly if you don’t really have the time to wash it fully or need to remove any makeup that might have smudged, or just to freshen up in the heat!

Next, I like to have a good book with me, some people prefer magazines, but I ‘d rather have a book! Right now I am reading Every Day by David Leviathan, I’m not very far into it by I’m enjoying it so far! It’s a light story that I find perfect for the beach, you don’t want to be reading some dark, complicated novel you have to focus too much on to understand!

Also for entertainment, I recommend a good summer playlist of all your favourite songs! I’ve been loving Meghan Rienks’ May playlist on Spotify, May I? It’s a great mix of relaxing songs and up-beat songs, and it’s about 3.5 hours long so there’s no way I’ll get bored of it! Obviously, you could also make you own playlist, but I didn’t have time to make my own!

Next, a bathing suit, I personally prefer bikinis, but it’s really up to you. I usually bring 2 when I go on a trip to the beach and alternate between them every day so they have time to dry and I don’t get strong tan-lines if they have different cuts! For this trip, I have one with a blue and white checkered pattered and a more colourful one with pastel tones from Forever 21, which I got just before leaving!

After that, I have a few fashion-related essentials: flip flops (or sandals), a beach cover-up, and shorts! I usually only bring flip flops and one other pair of shoes to the beach because they’re convenient, usually cheap, and pretty much made for this! For the cover-up, I find that there are times when you don’t really want to change out of your bathing-suit, but you feel you should be more dressed. I usually just put on a cover up over my swimsuit at lunch, for example! Last, I don’t think you can go to the beach without a pair of shorts, either to wear with your bathing suit, or a cover-up, or any other shirt!

Up next, sunglasses, these are actually really important for protecting your eyes from the sun, they don’t have to be super fancy or anything. Pick a pair you really like, I know you can get colourful ones from Forever 21 if you’re bored of the usual black-framed ones, but personally, I like those just fine!

Next, a beach towel. Depending on where you are going, you may not need one and the hotel you are staying at will probably be providing one, but it’s better to be safe than sorry and bring a towel to lie on by the pool on on the beach, and to dry yourself off.

And finally, some snacks. After a couple of hours on the beach or by the pool, you’re bound to get hungry, and since hotel food usually gets quite expensive, I find it good to have some snacks handy, like granola bars, dried fruit or some nuts!

Those were all of my beach essentials, let me know in the comments if I’ve left anything out!

See you in the next post! ♥

Nail Polish Collection Essentials

Hey everyone!

As you may know if you’ve been following my blog for a while, or even if you read my beauty haul from a few days ago, you’ll know that I am kind of obsessed with nail polish! Almost every time I go shopping, I get at least one nail polish, if not more! Anyways, I was going through my nail polish collection and thinking about getting new colours and all that, and somehow started thinking about the essential nail polish colours, so here they are!

Essential polishesFirst, top and base coat. I know this seems boring and obvious but I feel it’s really important to have both, to protect your nails, keep them healthy and make the manicure last longer. I recommend OPI’s natural base coat and OPI’s top coat, I’ve had both for a while and notice a big difference when I don’t use them.

Next, nude! I wrote a whole post on nude nail polishes here. There always comes a time when you feel like clean, perfect nails, and nude colours do just that! There are so many different nude shades, shimmery, pin undertones, yellow undertones, translucent and so many more, it’s up to your to pick what suits you. My current favourite is OPI’s Cosmo Not Tonight Honey but I am thinking about getting Essie’s Romper Room at some point!

Another staple is white, which is perfect for using on it’s own, nail art or layering with other colours. If you wear it under a coloured polish, it will be brighter and more vibrant, so it’s a good idea to use the white, especially if you’re wearing a neon colour!

Then, I think it’s nice to have a gold nail polish for when you really want to glam up your nails once in a while, or just as an accent colour on your ring finger. The one I have is OPI’s ……….. from the James Bond collection, but there are quite a few different gold polishes out there so go find the perfect one for you!

Essential polishes

Up next, a bright red! Pretty much everyone who owns nail polish has a bright red cream polish. It’s a beautiful colour that goes all with all skin tones. Depending on the exact shade, it can change a look, from classic to bold to edgy!

Following that, a neon polish for the summer! Any colour you want, my personal favourite neon right now is OPI’s Down To The Core-Al, I prefer coral or pink to bright yellow, orange or green, but I don’t think it makes a big difference, as long as it’s bright!

It’s also good to have a pastel colour, mainly for the spring, but it’s nice for any time of year. Once again, the colour doesn’t really matter, just pick one you like, my personal favourite would be purple or blue, but once again, it depends on you!

Finally, it’s also good to have a darker colour, I like Yoga-ta Get This Blue, which is a beautiful shimmery navy, a perfect colour for fall or winter. t’s an elegant colour that goes with most outfits, it’s a beautiful colour that isn’t too in your face, despite its dark tones!

Okay, I think that’s it, obviously, many people have loads of other colours, but I feel like these are the basics, those to start our collection with!

Let me know what your nail polish essentials are!

See you in the next post with part 2 of the haul! ♥

Summer Haul – Fashion

Hey everyone!

Usually, when I go shopping, I don’t buy that many things, most of the time, shopping is just an excuse to spend an afternoon with a friend and we buy one or two things once in a while, which is why I don’t post hauls, but over the past month or so I’ve bought quite a few things I want to share with you! Because I want to talk a little more in depth about these products, I decided to split this haul into two posts, a fashion one and a beauty one!

Here is the second part, fashion!

Fashion haul

First is a pyjama top, so usually I just use T-shirts from gymnastics competitions for pyjama tops because I have so many, they are really comfortable and I don’t have any other use for them, but I do like having a couple other tops as well so I got this dark blue-grey tank top with white lace from Cotton On body. I had been eyeing it for a while and my mom offered to buy it so here it is! It’s really comfortable and flattering, especially with looser bottoms so I like wearing it with the next item!

This next thing is a pyjama bottom I got at the same time as the top. I already have one like this but it’s getting a little old, and this one is so soft and comfortable to sleep or lounge around in! I really like the design and the colours kind of match the top so I really like it! They’re probably going to by my favourite pyjamas and I might end up spending a little longer than I should in my pyjamas on weekends!

Next is a black lace long sleeved crop top from forever 21. It wasn’t too expensive and I really like it because it can be dressed up or down. It can be a more casual look with a pair of shorts and sandals or on the formal side with a skirt and heels. I’ll probably pair it with the Forever 21 skirt I showed in my April Favourites, they should go really well together and make for a more formal look because of the long sleeves and monochrome colours. I’ll probably wear them with a pair of either black or white heels for a simple look

Finally, not a clothing item, but still fashion, a turquoise quilted wallet from Stradivarius! I am really excited about it, I’ve been wanting a new wallet for a while now because the one I currently have is getting a bit worn out, but haven’t been able to find a design I liked that wasn’t too expensive. This one fitted the “requirements”: it was about $20 (Singapore dollars) which as far as wallets go is pretty good, the design is nice and simple, the size is perfect, I can fit my phone, earphones, cards and money into it so I can use it as a clutch and take just that if I’m running to the store or something, so I’m pretty happy with it!

That’s all the fashion things I bought, check the beauty haul for the beauty products which are mainly nail polishes!

Let me know what you’ve bought recently or what you recommend!

See you in the next post! ♥

Summer haul – Beauty

Hey everyone!

Usually, when I go shopping, I don’t buy that many things, most of the time, shopping is just an excuse to spend an afternoon with a friend and we buy one or two things once in a while, which is why I don’t post hauls, but over the past month or so I’ve bought quite a few things I want to share with you! Because I want to talk a little more in depth about these products, I decided to split this haul into two posts, a fashion one and a beauty one!

Here is the first part, beauty!

Beauty Haul

First is OPI’s base coat nail polish, it’s kind of a boring item but I still wanted to include it just because it’s like the 3rd bottle I’ve bought and I think it’s totally worth getting and if you’re looking for a good base coat, it helps make the nail polish last longer and avoids staining.

Next is a coloured nail polish, OPI’s My Chihuahua Bites. I was actually going to get the Live.Love.Carnaval nail polish but I decided it was too similar to Elephantastic Pink which I have, and I couldn’t justify buying it so I picked this one which has more of a reddish-coral colour. I think it’s a great, bright colour for summer and it’ll probably look best over a coat of white polish to make the colour pop more.

I got another pinkish nail polish about a week late, OPI’s Down To The Core-al, from the neon collection. As soon as I saw it, I knew I had to buy it,  I felt slightly guilty buying another pink nail polish because I already have so many but I felt it was different enough from the others I have to justify buying it! It’s brighter and warmer than any other pinkish polish I own, which are on the cooler end of the pink spectrum, like Elephantastic Pink which I’ve talked about before! Overall, it’s just more of a true coral and I can’t wait to try it!

Next, a non-nail related product for a change, the Lush Santa’s lip scrub. Yes, it is a christmas product but I just got it, and that is because it is an insanely late christmas present from a friend who I hadn’t seen in a while! Anyways, it is bright red and coca-cola scented and flavoured. I’ve never tried any of the Lush lip scrubs but they seem great and I’ve wanted one for a while so I could’t be happier about this and I might do a full review of it, so let me know if you want to see that!

I also got a hair product, that I’ve never had before, the Batiste dry shampoo in the original scent. I’ve only tried it once before, when I was on a trip with some friends and one of them had it and let me try some. I don’t really remember what I thought of it so I can’t wait to try it again. I got a small, travel sized bottle to see what I thought of it and also because I will be travelling a lot within the next month and I don’t want to be carrying a big bottle around everywhere!

Last is a makeup product, the first I’ve bought in a while, the Maybelline The Rocket waterproof mascara. I already have the non waterproof version of this but since I’m running out and it’s summer, I thought I should get a waterproof mascara, and I went with this one because I know I like it! I have an in-depth review/comparison of the non waterproof version here!

Let me know what you’ve bought recently or what you recommend!

See you in the next post with part 2 of the haul! ♥

April Favourites

Hey everyone!

So to kick off May I thought I would tell you about my April favourites! (Sorry they’re kind of late it took a while to get the pictures done!) So here are a bunch of products that I really enjoyed this past month, from beauty products, to songs, to food!

April Favourites

Okay, let’s get this started! So first is the Victoria’s Secret lip balm I bought a few months ago, which I reviewed here in February. I loved it then and I love it now! I only use it at night, partly because the packaging makes it kind of inconvenient to use during the day and because using it only at night makes it feel more special and luxurious! It smells really good and tastes sweet and moisturizes my lips perfectly!

Next is a hair product which has literally changed my hair: the Schwarzkopf shea cashmere conditioner. Every time I use it, my hair feels really soft and moisturised once it dries and I love it. Some of the other perks are that it’s cheap, you don’t need a lot at a time (and I have pretty long hair) and I like the way it smells! So yeah, if you have dry hair, and feel like you need a more moisturizing shampoo, this one is perfect!

Third is fashion and I picked one piece of clothing that I’ve worn a lot and loved this month, and it is a black skater skirt  with white polka dots from Forever 21. I got it at the beginning of the month and my eye was immediately drawn to it, I had been looking for a new skater skirt and I liked the cut and shape of this one. It goes well with a whole bunch of different tops, coloured or black and white! So that was my favourite fashion item this month.

Up next is my favourite song of the month and although there are several that I’ve listened to a bunch of times, my favourite is definitely “Brave” by Sara Bareilles, I just really like the lyrics and the tune so go check it out!

My final favourite is a food favourite! So I do gymnastics almost every day after school so I always need some kind of snack with me to keep me going and over time I’ve found that granola bars are the best because they taste good, are pretty filling and healthy. I’ve tried loads of different ones and right now my ones are the Alpen Light Summer fruits for several reasons. First, because it tastes amazing, second, because it’s full of fruits, it’s really healthy, and, these bars give me enough energy for 3 hours of gymnastics!

Let me know what your current favourites are!

See you in the next post! ♥

Beauty Wish List

Hey everyone!

So for today’s post I thought I’d tell you about some of the products I’ve had my eye on and want to try, that I’ll probably be picking up sooner or later

beauty wishlist

1- Soap and Glory’s The Fab Pore Facial Pore Purifying Mask & Peel. So the last time I was at Sephora, I spent a long time looking at all of the Soap and Glory skincare products and they all looked amazing, honestly, if I could, I would buy them all, but let’s face it, I’m not that rich! Out of the entire range of products, this and the cleansers are what attracted me most! I’m really into skincare right now, especially face masks and peels so this is right up my alley! Anyways, it’s supposed to be exfoliating and pore minimising which is what I need so it’s pretty much at the top of my list!

2- Rhianna’s Rogue perfume. I also found this in Sephora with a not so long ago and we both fell in love with it within the first 3 seconds of smelling it! If I had to describe it I think I would say it would smell of peaches but the official description is “The fragrance is announced as a flirtatious and sensual oriental, containing accords of lemon blossom, cyclamen, jasmine, rose, plum and suede over a base of musk, woods, patchouli, vanilla and amber.”

3- OPI’s Live.Love.Carnaval. Okay so I’m a little bit of a nail polish junkie and I feel like if I could only buy one type of beauty thing it would be nail polish (and mascara) I just love all of the colours and finishes and stuff! So obviously I’m always looking for the new collections and I really liked OPI’s spring Brazil collection, I liked that they have the bright, warm colours and the pretty taupes/browns. I decided I couldn’t buy all of them, so I picked one and I think it would be Live.Love.Carnaval, I like that it’s a hot pink, almost red, but also kind of a coral…

4- Victoria Secret’s Pure Seduction body wash. There isn’t really much to say about this, other than I got a mini of the body spray for christmas I love the scent so much, and I’ve heard that the Victoria’s Secret body washes are really nice so I’ll probably be getting one in the near future!

5- Forever 21’s Retro Printed Strapless Dress. Okay so this is a fashion item, and I know I don’t usually talk about clothes but I’ve really had my eye on this and I think it’s really gorgeous! I’ve really been into dresses and skirts recently and I think this one is perfect! I love the kind of slit back, and the bow/sash at the back, I also really like the cut and shape. I think it would be good to dress up or down for something more or less casual, depending on the shoes and jacket and bag you wear!

I’ll probably be buying these in the near future (finger’s crossed!), so let me know if you would like me to do a review or post pictures of any of them! And I’m always on the lookout for new products so let me know what’s on your beauty wish list!

See you in the next post! ♥

Pampering night essentials

Hey everyone!

So once in a while, when I’m really tired and want to unwind and relax, I like to have a pampering night-in, sometimes alone, and sometimes with one or two friends. There are several things that really help me unwind and I thought I’d share them with you, as well as what I like to do!

pampering essentials

First, I close my windows and light a yummy smelling candle, currently I’ve been loving one from IKEA, it smells of apple and cinnamon and the smell fills the entire room. Then I take a nice, long, warm shower, using my favourite, yummy smelling shower products, I don’t always wash my hair, because it takes so much longer, my favourite shower gel to use is the Lush snow fairy shower gel, it smells amazing! I also like to use a nice body scrub for my skin to be super soft, right now I am using a caramel flavoured one from Sephora but I also really like Soap and Glory’s Flake Away scrub!

Once I get out, I dry myself off and slip into comfy pyjamas. After that, I make myself a cup of tea, my two favourites are Lipton’s Caramel Tea, or Twining’s Mint Tea. I like the first with milk and sugar, and the second with just sugar, and I sip on the tea for the rest of the night, I find it so relaxing and calming!

Then, I moisturise my entire body with the Soap and Glory The Righteous Butter, including my feet which I then slip into a pair of comfy bedroom slippers! After that, I like to do a face mask, right now I’m using the St Ives clay mask, after about 10 minutes, I wipe it off with a wet washcloth.

Next, to add to the “spa experience” I like to paint my nails if I’m not too tired and have enough patience! The final thing I do is slip into bed with a nice book, right now I’m reading Divergent which I am loving! If you get a chance to read it, I definitely recommend it because it is amazing! I read until I am tired enough to fall asleep, sometimes it’s pretty quick, and sometimes I read for over an hour!

I really love doing this, it feels so nice to just relax, unwind and have some me-time once in a while and I recommend doing this to everyone, it’s even funner to do with one or two friends, it’s kind of like an at home spa night together!

What are your pampering night essentials?
