Tips for starting a makeup collection

Hey everyone!

So I’ve been short of inspiration for a while and that’s why I haven’t been posting much, so if you have any requests, let me know! Anyways, I thought that I would share some tips for starting a makeup collection today!

Make Up Collection

Honestly, makeup is really expensive, and most people can’t afford to buy a whole set of foundation, eyeshadow, lipstick, blush and so on in one go. Like most collections, a makeup collection takes a while to build up, and to include a wide range of products, shades and colours. I have a couple of tips to help you get a decent collection, without spending too much money in one go.

  • First, don’t expect or try to get all of your makeup from a high-end brand like Mac or Chanel, drugstore brands like Maybelline or Revlon have great products too, for much cheaper. I think it’s good to get a mix of brands, and buy more expensive products as a treat for yourself.
  • Don’t start by buying everything in every colour, to start with, you only need one foundation, a couple of blushes and lipsticks, and an eyeshadow palette, in other words, only a few of everything. There’s no point getting 50 eyeshadows you probably won’t use, buy products you know you’ll love rather than wasting money on random products. Most people with large makeup collections rarely use everything, they have a few staples they stick to and the rest goes, for the most part, untouched
  • Build you collection slowly, this kind of links to the previous point, its not a good idea to go out one day and buy everything you see and want, you’ll go bankrupt! And you never know, maybe a new product you want will come out but you won’t have any more money, or space for it! Remember, you can only use so many products at a time!
  • If there’s an expensive product you’re eyeing, but don’t want to spend too much money, ask friends or your parents to get if for you as a christmas or birthday gift. Otherwise, you could find some sort of compromise like splitting the price or something.
  • Be patient, remember that collections take a while to build, and half the fun is buying the products, looking for the perfect eyeliner, or going on product hunts with a friend!

I hope these tips helped, or at least a little! I know how frustrating it can be to want a large makeup collection, but then I remind myself that I don’t need the most makeup, and I don’t want to be broke!

Let me know if you have any other tips on starting a makeup collection!

Victoria’s Secret Smooth Kiss Glossy Lip Butter Review

Hey everyone!

So I recently went shopping and one of the things I got was the Victoria’s Secret Smooth Kiss Glossy Lip Butter in Ooh La La, and I thought I would do a review of it!

Okay, so first impressions: it smells pretty good, almost like really sweet cookies, if I were to describe the scent in one word it would definitely be “sweet”; the colour looks nice, a pretty light pink in the packaging, but it’s actually pretty sheer, just kind of shiny when applied. Then there’s taste, personally I don’t mind whether a lip balm has a taste or not but it’s always a bonus when it does, this one has a relatively subtle, sweet taste which I love! Next is packaging, I prefer lip balms in a tube rather than in a pot, I just find it more convenient to apply, but this is okay considering how good the rest is.

Next is how good it actually is; I like the way it feels on my lips, smooth, not too sticky, and it really quenches them when they feel dry, and I think it helps in the long run, makes my lips feel smoother and moisturised, especially when I use it after a lip scrub. I also like how long it lasts, and that when I apply it just before bed, there is still a little of the taste left on my lips the next morning.

Overall, I love pretty much everything about it, only downsides are the packaging, not my favourite but it’s not too bad, the other is the price, $15 (SGD), it was a little bit of a splurge but it isn’t too expensive compared to some other lip balms, price-amount wise. I like everything else about it: the smell, the taste, and the moisture!

Bottom line is: I completely recommend this product!

Let me know what lip balm you’ve been loving!

P.S.: I’ve been short of inspiration recently which is why I haven’t posted in a while so if you have any requests, let me know in the comments!

Top mascaras

Hey everyone!

So I’ve tried many different mascaras to find the perfect one to give me long, voluminous lashes, some of them weren’t that great, others I may be repurchasing for the rest of my life. I think I’ve finally found the best mascara combination for long, voluminous and defined lashes.

mascaras

Something I’ve learnt over the years is that there is no mascara that does everything so the best solution is to layer two or three and I think I’ve found the perfect combination. The first is the KIKO Makeup Milano False Lash Concentrate Volume Top Coat Mascara, it is the most voluminous of the two and it separates all of the lashes. Alone, it give more of a natural look which I really like for light and natural makeup, it’s kind of like normal lashes but in better. There is no clumping whatsoever, even with two coats, which is great, the only bad thing about this mascara is that it’s not available in many places, KIKO is an italian brand and I get products through a friend who goes to Italy once in a while so I have no idea where you can find it. The other mascara is the Maybelline The Rocket mascara, I really like it because it lengthens and volumises, although it doesn’t give as much volume as the KIKO one. On it’s own, the rocket mascara is pretty good, better than KIKO in my opinion, but the two layered together give a perfect false lash effect with only one coat of each. There is sometimes a bit of clumping when I use The Rocket but if I do it carefully it’s fine.

What is your favourite mascara combination?

Summer Makeup

Hey everyone!

Summer, it’s finally here! Time to pull out the shorts and the flip flops and spend days on end, lazing by the pool! The change of season also means updating your makeup, I’ll be writing about my go-to summer makeup, it’s quick, light and easy: perfect for the summer! So this is my go-to summer makeup for days I want to look more put together but still natural! I hope you enjoy it!

When I think of summer makeup, I think of light and natural makeup: a light BB cream or tinted moisturiser, a little bit of shimmer on the lids, maybe a thin line of eyeliner, waterproof mascara, blush and a bright lip!

For eyeshadow, I recommend using a light nude, shimmery colour all over the lid, like Stila’s Kitten, or Urban Decay’s Bootycall (from the Urban Decay Naked 2 palette) and a matte brown in the crease, for that I’ve been using Urban Decay’s Tease, also from Naked 2 which has purple undertones but looks great on tanned skin. I find that liquid eyeliner is sometimes a little too much for the summer so I either skip it or smudge a little bit of pencil liner on my upper lash line, I use Sephora’s nano eyeliner in black or brown. Then mascara, it definitely needs to be waterproof, in case you decide to jump into the pool, or you start to sweat… I have been using Revlon’s Photoready volumizing mascara which is waterproof and I like it a lot, it is quite lengthening and volumizing, and I wore it to the pool yesterday and it did not smudge. For blush, I’ve been alternating between Revlon’s Powder Blush in Berry Rich and Silky Girl’s Shimmer Duo Blush in Rose Petal, they are both really pretty light pinks which give a nice lively glow to your face, remember to use it with a light hand, to make it look more natural. And finally, lips, I love doing a bright lip in the summer, it makes you look like you spend more time doing your makeup than you probably did, and it gives a fun pop of colour to your look, which I think is great, especially if you kept the rest of your makeup more neutral! My go-to lip combo recently has been filling in my lips with Sephora’s nano lip liner in 14, radiant rosy, then using the Mac lipstick in Bombshelland then adding a bit of shine with the Stila lip glaze in Rosebud, which was in a limited edition set, so I would replace it with the lip glaze in guava which is quite similar.

Let me know what your go-to summer makeup is!
