Christmas Glam – Beauty Gift Guide

Hey everyone!

So for today’s Christmas Glam post I’m going to give you some gift ideas for the beauty lovers on your list. For me, these include my best friend, my sister and my aunt, they all love beauty related gifts, but slightly different product types, and I think that applies to everyone, some people love eyeshadow, and others are more into nail polish and so on, so here are some ideas for all types of beauty lovers!

2014 Beauty Gift Guide

1- Anyone who’s into beauty will always be happy with another eyeshadow palette and Christmas is the best time to find gorgeous ones. There is such a large range of colours, prices and brands available, from Nyx to Chanel. I’m going to be getting an eyeshadow palette for my sister, I know she wants more coloured eyeshadows and we’ve talked about Urban Decay’s Electric palette so I’ll probably get her that, but there are so many different ones that there is probably one for everyone, so I recommend looking around, especially at Sephora which probably has the most options! One specific palette I think would make an amazing gift, also Urban Decay, is the Naked On The Run Palette. I think any beauty lover would be happy to get it, the set includes 5 eyeshadow colours, a bronzer, a blush, a mascara, an eye pencil and a lip liner: perfect!

2- This is something I don’t think people think about gifting that often, I at least never did, but makeup brushes would make a great gift. I’m giving some to a friend this year because I know she wants more makeup tools. Brushes are actually really great because they can be quite expensive and sometimes people would be reluctant to spend money on more than just the absolute basics. Plus, there are all sorts of brush sets you can find, from so many great brands, but I think my top two are Real Techniques and Mac, both brands have such amazing quality

3- Moving on from makeup, perfume can make a great present, an amazing gift set is the Sephora Favourites Scent Sampler, it’s quite pricey ($SGD 98 or $USD60), but it includes 14 perfume samples and a voucher for any of the perfumes in full size. I am thinking about splitting it with my sister and getting it for my aunt, but since it is really expensive, it may be a bit out of your budget for one person’s gift. If that is the case, you could split it up between a couple of people, as many as you would like, and maybe keep the voucher for yourself!

4- Next up, my personal favourite, nail polish! Just like makeup and perfume, there are amazing Christmas gift sets, particularly from Ciate, like their Candy Cane House, which is as set of 4 gorgeous nail colours in a cute candy cane house gift box! As I said, I love nail polish, but I know it can be kind of hard to buy for someone because it’s hard to know what colours they have, if you can, try to snoop around to see what colours they have, and what type they like (brights, neutrals, pinks, matte…) And when you see a set that seems to fit them, you’ll know it!

5- And finally, bath and body products! There are so many amazing gifts you can get in this category, my personal favourite would be a Lush Gift Box, they have so many different ones at so many different prices, you’ll definitely find something for anyone who’s into yummy smelly body products! Another plus is that they are already wrapped and look amazing, so this is especially good if you don’t have much time to spend on looking for a gift.

Christmas Glam – Christmas Shopping

Hey everyone!

So I went Christmas shopping yesterday, and I personally love it, but I know that some people really dread it, so I though I would share some tips for quick & painless shopping, along with some of my shopping habits, and I’m going to alternate between the two!

Christmas shopping

So to get started, here’s a quick Outfit Of The Day! When I go shopping, I like to go for a comfortable casual outfit, but still dress up a little. I decided to go for washed out blue high waisted shorts from Cotton On and a long sleeved black lace crop top from Forever 21. For shoes, I went with turquoise sandals with a small wedge heel.

My first tip is to set aside a day or an afternoon for shopping if you can. It’s so much easier to go to the mall once for a couple of hours and get gifts for everyone than to go for a half hour after work, then an hour on the weekend before going out to dinner and so on. It can also help if this day for shopping is on a weekday, that way it won’t be too crowded.

Something I really enjoy having while I’m shopping is a nice frappuchino from Starbucks. I really like their special Christmas drinks, My top two are the Toffee Nut Latte and Christmas Cookie Latte, which is new this year, and I really love it. A sip now and then to re energize is perfect! Related to this, because Christmas shopping is tiring for anyone; even for those who love it, the crowds and the noise can get to you, I recommend taking a break about half way through, or when you start to get tired, just sit down in a cafe for a while and recharge, ready for the next round!

Next tip is to have a shopping list so you know what you’re looking for and you don’t spend hours just trying to remember what you have to get for who and you don’t forget anything. Write down everything you want to pick up, even small things like a box of chocolate or a card for a neighbour. If you aren’t sure what you want to get for everyone, at least jot down a couple of ideas for each person, or the store you want to get their gift from, it’ll make your shopping a lot easier.

Another thing that has become a bit of a christmas shopping tradition for me is to treat myself to one thing, I don’t go shopping or buy things for myself that often and I love doing all of the gift sets at Christmas, so every year, I get myself one small gift set, or limited edition product from Sephora, just as a treat! If you don’t really like christmas shopping, having a gift at the end is a good way to enjoy it

A very useful thing to do before going shopping is to do some online research, this can help no matter what type of gift you want to get. If you’re already have specific gifts in mind, research can help you check whether the gift is good quality, worth its price, and whether the person you’re giving it to will like it. If you aren’t sure what to get, go to some store’s websites, have a look at what they suggest as gifts, or look for gift guides (I’ll be doing a couple in the next few days, those from last year are here and here!)

Next tip is to set a budget, start by deciding approximately how much you want to spend per person, then, once you have your list, you can approximate how much everything is going to cost. It doesn’t have to be exact, it should just be an estimation so you have a ball park figure of how much you’re going to spend and aren’t too shocked when you get home and start going through your receipts!

I also recommend picking up a few small, cute, inexpensive things, like a necklace from forever 21, a mini body wash from Sephora, a phone case from H&M, cute earphones… and other things under 10$. The kind of gifts you could give to pretty much anyone, or put in someone’s stocking, backup gifts in a way, and if you don’t end up using them, you can probably keep them for a birthday or something!

Last stop for my shopping is usually a stationary store where I get all of my wrapping supplies. I do this at the end so I know all the gifts I have to wrap and don’t end up being short of paper. I get a couple of rolls of paper that aren’t too long so I can buy several and have lots of variety, some ribbons and some pretty paper for labels.

Ok, those were all of my shopping tips & traditions, but I think the main thing you should remember is to have fun and enjoy it, even though it can be tough and stressful!

Christmas Glam – DIY Christmas Centrepiece

Hey everyone!

So I’m kind of on a roll with DIYs, with yesterday’s recipe, so today I decided to share how to make your own Christmas centrepiece. As I mentioned in my Christmas in Pinterest Land post, Christmas decorations are one of my favourite things about the holiday, they make me really excited and happy and they’re so pretty! In my family, we usually start decorating the house one the first weekend of December or the last weekend of November, that’s when we buy our tree, take out our box of decorations, and start playing Christmas music, so that’s when I really start getting in the christmas spirit!

Centrepieces

One of the decorations I love having is a centrepiece for our dining table, I usually make a different one every year with 4 candles and we light one each of the 4 Sundays before Christmas. I love that it’s always on the dining table so it makes it Christmas-y and pretty, and I can make it slightly different each year! So here is how to make your own Christmas centrepiece!

What you’ll need:

Centrepeice- what you need

What to do:

Centrepiece - How To

1. Start by placing a glass vase in the centre of your plate/tray and filling it with baubles, try to use a variety of colours and patterns for your baubles

2- Put some of the moss all around the jar, the pieces don’t have to all be the same size, I think it’s more interesting to have some small pieces and some big pieces

3- Put some pine branches around the moss, you can put as little or as much as you like, you could even put some on top of the moss or in the jar if you want

4- To add some glitter and colour, you can use some extra baubles or straight up glitter, the baubles I used are small golden glass baubles, if you decide to use glitter, keep in mind that it might get messy

5- For the finishing touches, tie a christmas-y bow around the glass jar, and voila!

6- Alternatively, you could use candles, which is what I like to do. Do the exact same thing, but instead of putting a glass vase with baubles inside it, put 4 candles in the middle.

7- Same as with the glass vase, tie a pretty bow around each of the candles, and you’re done!

That is it, as you can see, it’s really easy and looks really great! I really like that there are so many different textures, with the moss, the pine, the baubles/candles… You can also add pinecones on top of the moss or the pine, I think they look great! And there is so much more you can change/adapt, that’s what I love about DIY centrepieces, they’re completely flexible!

Christmas Glam – Christmas S’mores Hot Chocolate

Hey everyone!

So for today’s Christmas Glam post, I am going to be sharing my favourite christmas drink: s’mores hot chocolate! It’s not particularly christmas-y, it’s just more special than your usual cocoa & milk. I think it’s perfect for curling up with a night as a little treat, whether you’re watching your favourite christmas movie or reading a book

S'mores Hot Chocolate

Here’s the recipe!

What you’ll need (for 1 serving):

S'mores hot chocolate - what you need

  • 1 cup of milk
  • 2 tablespoons of cocoa (I like Van Houten)
  • 2 tablespoons of sugar
  • 1 digestive biscuit/2 graham crackers
  • Peanut butter
  • Marshmallows
  • A dash of cinnamon
  • A few chocolate chips

What to do:

S'mores Hot Chocolate - How To

  • Put the biscuit/crackers into a zip lock bag and seal it well, then use a rolling pin to crush the crackers into fine crumbs, you could even use a mug instead of a rolling pin. Once the biscuit is crushed, put the crumbs into a small plate
  • Using a knife, line the rim of the mug you will be using with peanut butter, you can put as much or as little as you want, depending on your taste
  • Dip the peanut butter rim into the cracker crumbs, make sure the peanut butter is completely coated in the fine crumbs by pushing them onto the edge of the mug.
  • In a separate mug, heat up the milk in the microwave for a couple of minutes, or until it’s the temperature you like
  • Add the cocoa and sugar to the milk and mix well, until there aren’t any clumps
  • Pour the hot chocolate into the peanut butter & biscuit lined mug
  • Add in the marshmallows to the hot chocolate, I like to roast them on my stove before adding them in, just so it’s even more like s’mores and extra gooey
  • Sprinkle the cinnamon, the chocolate chips and some extra cracker crumbs on top
  • Enjoy!

I love this recipe so much and I hope you enjoy it! Send me pictures at glitterandbeauty.blog@gmail.com if you make it!

Christmas Glam – Christmas in Pinterest land

Hey everyone!

So to kick off my Christmas Glam series this year I wanted to have a really festive, inspiring, fun post, so naturally, I turned to Pinterest, also known in my book as “A Parallel Universe where Everything is Perfect”. No but seriously though, don’t you wonder how everything on Pinterest is just so perfect? The decorations are perfect, the manicures are flawless, and the recipe pictures look so amazing. When I was explaining Pinterest to my mom the other day I just said “It’s like instagram but everything is perfect”. Literally, everything in Pinterest-land seems so perfect I don’t understand how it’s all real, and I decided to share some of my favourite Christmas related stuff here to get us all in a really Christmas-y mood – in case you aren’t already! (All of it and more is on my Pinterest Christmas board too!)

So here are some gorgeous pictures of my 3 favourite parts of christmas: the decoration, the food and gift giving, which are the three main things I’m going to be talking about in Christmas Glam! Get ready for some beautifully decorated christmas trees, delicious looking christmas foods and perfectly wrapped presents!

Pinterest Christmas - trees

I love all of these so much, just looking at it makes me feel so excited and happy! Also, can we all take a moment to marvel at the gorgeous rainbow gradient christmas tree? I think it’s my favourite, it’s so gorgeous, and I think my new life’s goal is to have a similar tree one year, but apart from that one, they all look absolutely amazing and perfect, I just love the decoration in general!

Pinterest Christmas - food

One of my favourite parts about christmas is baking, especially with my aunt, and spending time decorating cupcakes and cookies! All of these look so amazing, and the bottom right cupcake reminds me so much or the Starbucks peppermint mocha! I will obviously be posting a couple of Christmas recipes in this Christmas Glam series and I am really excited for all of the baking coming up!

Pinterest Christmas - Gifts

I love giving gifts at christmas because, first, it makes people so happy to receive gifts, second, it gives me a good reason to go shopping and spend hours in shops like sephora, and third, they can look so pretty! I really love spending time wrapping them and making them look amazing because I love coming down on Christmas morning and seeing a bunch of gorgeous gifts under the tree. Also, beautiful wrapping shows the person receiving the gift you really care and put lots of time & effort into it. Here are just a few gift wrapping ideas, and I love all of them so much! I will be doing a full post on wrapping presents, and it should be coming out next friday, meanwhile, here is the one I did last year!

I hope you are as excited as I am for Christmas Glam and Christmas itself, as usual, let me know if you have any requests or feedback!

What’s your favourite part of Christmas?

November update

Hey everyone,

November Update

So I was scrolling through my blog, looking for inspiration, because I really want to post. It may not seem like it given how little I post, but I really enjoy sitting down and writing for you guys, but most of the time, I just don’t feel inspired, so I’m constantly on the lookout for new ideas. One type of post that’s really easy for me to write is updates, I just sit down somewhere comfortable in the evening with a nice warm drink and type whatever comes to my mind, which is exactly what I am doing right now!

First I want to thank you for reading this post and following my blog if you are! I feel like bloggers should support each other, even if they aren’t writing about the same things, after all, we’re all part of the same internet blog world, which is why I try to comment on several people’s blogs every week, and like their posts, and read what they have to say in general! To continue spreading the blogger love, I’ve decided that I will follow back whoever follows me (on wordpress or bloglovin’) and like and comment on my favourite posts on their blogs. So go ahead, like, comment or follow, and spread blogger love with me, especially since it’s the holiday season right now!

Speaking of, I will be doing Christmas Glam again this year, like I did last year! I haven’t completely figured out how long it’s going to be and what I am going to be posting, but I do know I am planning a Christmas surprise (hint: it involves a gift) to thank everyone who reads my blog, so you can look forward to that! And if you have any requests for christmas glam or non christmas-related posts, as usual you can leave a comment or send me an e-mail at glitterandbeauty.blog@gmail.com!

And finally, just a quick personal update! I have another three weeks of school before my December/Christmas break, until then I am really busy with school work, gymnastics, planning an event, volunteer work I do. Add to that doing things with friends and sleeping, I don’t have very much free time, but I don’t mind because I really love everything I do! This week I am particularly excited because it is my birthday on friday (I am turning 16!) and I have a gymnastics competition on Saturday, so I just have to get through monday to thursday!

Thank you so much for reading!

See you in the next post! ♥
